When Mohammed Kudus put West Ham ahead in the 18th minute due to some poor defending from Spurs, the manager might have feared the worst. However, Dejan Kulusevski equalised before half-time, and the hosts returned to their brilliant form in the second half.
Yves Bissouma scored to make it 2-1 in the 52nd minute, followed by an own goal from Jean-Clair Todibo just four minutes later. Son Heung-min then completed the scoring in the 60th minute with a classic left-footed finish.
There was still time for Julen Lopetegui to witness Kudus receive a red card for violent conduct, adding to a disappointing day for the new West Ham manager.
Spurs were invigorated by the return of their fit-again captain, Son, while the in-form Brennan Johnson sent an early shot wide.
