Bournemouth triumphed over Southampton with a 3-1 victory, extending Southampton’s dismal beginning to the English Premier League season on Monday.
Southampton, still winless after six matches, is languishing at the bottom of the standings with just one point, sharing the spot with Wolverhampton. This represents their worst league start since 1998.
Brazilian forward Evanilson scored his debut goal for Bournemouth, while Antoine Semenyo shone brightly by netting one goal and assisting another. Bournemouth dominated the first half, scoring all three goals within the opening 45 minutes.
“We’ve been anticipating this goal from Evanilson,” remarked Bournemouth assistant coach Tommy Elphick. “He’s incredibly smart and makes clever runs. We hadn’t been utilizing him enough, so I’m happy for him. The first half reflects what we’ve been displaying in parts—it was electrifying.”
With this win, Bournemouth climbed to 11th place.
The hosts began strongly and took the lead at the 17-minute mark. Marcus Tavernier orchestrated the move by taking a quick free kick that caught Southampton’s defense off guard. Evanilson reacted quickly, deftly flicking the ball past the keeper.
Former Bristol City winger Semenyo proved to be a constant menace on the right wing. At the 32-minute mark, his cutback set up Lewis Cook for another goal.
