Pep Guardiola’s recently signed one-year extension with Manchester City, which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2026, does not include a break clause allowing him to exit should the club face relegation due to financial misconduct charges.
Manchester City are currently defending themselves against more than 100 allegations of financial breaches brought by the Premier League. While the club denies all accusations, an independent commission is investigating, and possible sanctions could range from fines to relegation from the Premier League.
Despite the uncertainty, Guardiola’s commitment remains unwavering. The Spaniard has previously expressed a willingness to manage City even if they were demoted to a lower division. Last year, when asked about his future should City be relegated as a result of the charges, Guardiola emphasized his loyalty.
“A good question,” he said. “I will answer when I have the sentence. In the moment, we are innocent until proven guilty. I will wait. But absolutely I will not consider my future based on being in the Premier League or League One. There’s more chance I stay if we’re in League One than if we’re in the Champions League.”
The manager’s new deal underscores his commitment to the club, regardless of the outcome of the ongoing investigations. As the saga unfolds, Guardiola and his team continue to focus on maintaining their status as one of the most successful sides in football.
