Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco, with the 20-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at St James’ Park.
According to British media reports, the Premier League club will pay an initial fee of £30 million, with additional performance-related bonuses included in the agreement.
A graduate of Monaco’s renowned academy, Bamba made his senior debut for the Ligue 1 side last season before establishing himself as a regular in the first team. He made 25 appearances in all competitions, including both legs of Monaco’s UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off against Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking after completing the move, Bamba expressed his excitement at joining the Magpies.
“I’m excited to test myself in a new league, the biggest league in the world. I learned a lot last season and now I feel ready for this new opportunity. I will give my all for this club.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes the young midfielder will add both quality and long-term potential to his squad.
“Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with huge potential for growth. His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on.
“He operates in a deeper role but has the ability to contribute all over the pitch, which he demonstrated in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.”
Bamba becomes Newcastle’s latest addition as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign, with Howe looking to build a team capable of competing both domestically and in European competition.
