Newcastle United are aiming for a third Premier League win in a row on Monday night as they take on a struggling Leicester City side that has only managed one win in 2025.
It’s been a tough return to the top flight for Leicester. Their only victory this year came back in February against Tottenham. Since then, they’ve lost eight matches in a row across all competitions and are already getting ready for life in the Championship next season. They’re currently 19th in the table with just 17 points, sitting 15 points from safety with only eight games left.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have plenty to play for. They ended their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy before the international break and followed it up with a 2-1 win over Brentford in midweek. Eddie Howe’s team will be confident of another three points here.
The Magpies are still in the race for a Champions League place and will move up to fifth with a win. They’ll also be looking to boost their goal difference, as fourth-placed Chelsea are currently seven goals better off.
For Leicester, things off the pitch aren’t helping either. Ruud van Nistelrooy left Harry Winks out of the squad for the midweek defeat to Manchester City, and it seems unlikely the midfielder will be brought back into the fold anytime soon. Their relationship looks badly damaged.
In terms of injuries, Leicester aren’t too badly hit. Abdul Fatawu has missed most of the season with an ACL injury, and both Odsonne Edouard and Harry Souttar are still unavailable.

Newcastle also have some injury concerns. Star striker Alexander Isak picked up a knock in midweek, but he’s expected to be fit for Monday’s game. Eddie Howe hasn’t said much about Isak’s condition, but if needed, Callum Wilson or William Osula are ready to step in. Kieran Trippier is a doubt, while Anthony Gordon could make his return after missing time with a hip problem he picked up while on international duty.
Things have clearly gone wrong at Leicester, and the tension around the squad is growing. The situation with Winks only adds to the feeling that all is not well. With nothing but pride left to play for, it’s hard to see Leicester getting anything out of this match—especially with Newcastle’s top players likely to be available. Newcastle look set to finish the season strong, and they should come away with all three points on Monday.
