Liverpool play away at Newcastle in a tough away game

Eddie Howe praised the impact of Arne Slot on Liverpool, the Premier League leaders, but he believes that the title race is still ongoing as they prepare to face Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Liverpool currently hold a nine-point lead at the top of the table, having secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday. Despite the 11-point gap between them and Pep Guardiola’s defending champions, Howe remains cautious and knows that anything can happen in the unpredictable Premier League. He stated, “I don’t think anything is ever certain or finished until it’s truly over.”

Howe also acknowledged that Liverpool is a team full of confidence and still hold the same identity under Jurgen Klopp, but he also credits Slot for making certain tweaks that have made them even more challenging to beat. As for Newcastle, they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham before drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace last Saturday.

Slot believes that facing Newcastle away will be a tougher test than playing against Real Madrid, despite their recent Champions League victory over the Spanish giants. He stated, “We know that we have another challenging week ahead of us. We may have thought that Madrid and City were difficult opponents, and they certainly were, but I believe that playing away to Newcastle will be even more challenging.” Slot also noted that the season is still not even halfway over, so anything can happen.
