West Ham United’s stance on potentially offering Jesse Lingard a contract appears to be leaning towards a negative decision. Lingard, who became a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest in June, has been training with the Hammers in the hopes of securing a new deal.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Lingard was seen at Rush Green training ground with West Ham’s players who are not on international duty. However, it’s suggested that the London club is “unlikely” to extend a contract offer to the former Manchester United forward.
The final decision regarding Lingard’s future at West Ham is expected to rest with manager David Moyes, and more clarity on the situation may emerge during Moyes’ press conference scheduled for Friday.
Jesse Lingard, who represented Manchester United from 2011 to 2022, has a notable footballing history. During his time with the Red Devils, he made 232 appearances, scoring 35 goals and providing 21 assists.
Lingard’s loan spell at West Ham during the second half of the 2020-21 season was particularly successful, where he netted nine goals and recorded five assists in just 16 appearances.
However, Lingard left Manchester United as a free agent in the summer of 2022 and subsequently signed a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest. Unfortunately, his time at Forest was marred by fitness issues, resulting in only two goals and two assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.
Now once again available as a free agent, Jesse Lingard’s potential return to West Ham seems to be hanging in the balance. West Ham made a notable sale during the summer by transferring Declan Rice to Arsenal, but their strong start to the Premier League season has demonstrated their resilience.
