Gunners go five clear as VAR sinks sorry Hammers

Arsenal beat West Ham 1-0 at the London Stadium yesterday, with Leandro Trossard grabbing the only goal late in the second half. The Belgian’s deflected effort from Martin Ødegaard’s cut-back put the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League, keeping their hopes of a first title in 22 years very much alive.

It was a scrappy affair, and West Ham came close to nicking a point right at the death when Callum Wilson bundled the ball in, but the goal was chalked off after Pablo was penalised for fouling keeper David Raya. Raya had also pulled off a brilliant close-range save earlier to deny Mateus Fernandes, which proved to be a real turning point in the match.

Arsenal had their injury worries too, with Ben White going off in the first half after a challenge with Crysencio Summerville.

West Ham remain in deep trouble at the bottom, sitting a point behind Tottenham with a game in hand used up. It’s looking increasingly grim for the Hammers.
