Former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged by Nottinghamshire Police for making an indecent image of a child, the police confirmed on Wednesday.
Coote, aged 43, is from Collingham in Nottinghamshire. He was charged in August and is expected to appear in court at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court later this week.
Police say the charge relates to a video file recovered back in February. It has been classified as a Category A file, which is considered the most serious type in such cases.
Coote was dismissed by PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) in December 2024 after a video surfaced, allegedly showing him making offensive remarks about then Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
In a separate incident, he was banned by UEFA until 30 June 2026 after another video showed him snorting a white powder while in Germany during Euro 2024.
He is currently out on conditional bail.
