Former Arsenal and Ghana international footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, according to a statement released by London’s Metropolitan Police on Friday.
The 32-year-old midfielder faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The charges relate to incidents involving three women, allegedly occurring between 2021 and 2022.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. His representatives have not yet issued a public response to the charges.
Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a high-profile €50 million transfer and was regarded as a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad. He was initially arrested in July 2022, though he was not publicly named at the time and continued to play for the club while investigations remained ongoing.
The developments mark a significant turn in a case that has drawn attention in both football and legal circles since the initial arrest two years ago.
