First huge test for Amorim against Arsenal in London

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will face their biggest challenge on Wednesday night when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates. The Gunners have been in top form since the international break in November, winning their last three matches with a total score of 13-3.

Mikel Arteta’s team had an easy win against Nottingham Forest, followed by a 5-0 victory over Sporting CP and a comprehensive win over West Ham. Although they have regained their momentum, they still have a nine-point gap to close with league leaders Liverpool.

Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford is relatively new, but United remains unbeaten under his leadership. The Portuguese coach has shown promising signs, with their most recent match resulting in a 4-0 win against Everton on Sunday. The rise of Marcus Rashford and impressive performances by Amad Diallo as a wing-back have been the highlights of Amorim’s tenure so far.

Arsenal, on the other hand, has a few injury concerns, and it is unlikely that Mikel Merino will feature on Wednesday due to a knee injury that kept him out of their previous match. Thomas Partey also missed the last game but travelled with the squad, indicating a potential return to the starting lineup against United. Despite Gabriel’s minor injury, he is expected to partner with William Saliba in Arsenal’s defence. However, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu will be absent for the hosts.

Amorim has the option to include Harry Maguire, who has recently recovered from an injury, in the left side of the back three, replacing Lisandro Martinez. Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo will be unavailable for the trip to the Emirates due to suspension after receiving their fifth bookings of the season against Everton. On a positive note, United’s injury concerns are easing, and Amorim has confirmed that Leny Yoro may make his season debut on Wednesday. Yoro has been out of action since the pre-season due to a foot injury. Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are unlikely to feature, but Bruno Fernandes is expected to be fit despite sustaining an ankle injury in their last match against Everton.
