Arsenal beat Brentford to extend unbeaten run

Arsenal kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Brentford, coming from behind to extend their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 12 matches.

Despite Arsenal having more possession, it was Brentford who took the lead in the 13th minute through Bryan Mbeumo’s excellent goal. Mbeumo cut inside from the right and shot past David Raya at his near post, after a great interception by Mikkel Damsgaard in midfield. This was the eighth time this season that Brentford had scored with their first shot in a Premier League match – more than any other team.

The home side almost doubled their lead when Raya fumbled a harmless shot from Keane Lewis-Potter but managed to recover the ball. However, it was Arsenal who scored next, with Gabriel Jesus heading in the rebound after Mark Flekken saved Thomas Partey’s shot, making it six goals in his last four matches.

Arsenal took control of the match in the 49th minute, showing their strength from set-pieces. Brentford failed to clear Ethan Nwaneri’s corner, and Mikel Merino was there to smash in the loose ball. Four minutes later, Nwaneri was involved again, crossing for Gabriel Martinelli to score Arsenal’s third goal after Nathan Collins accidentally headed the ball into Martinelli’s path.

Brentford struggled to find the same energy in the second half, while Arsenal dominated play. The Gunners comfortably saw out the final stages, moving to within six points of league leaders Liverpool, though Arsenal have played one more game. Brentford, meanwhile, suffered their fourth consecutive home defeat to Arsenal, making it a disappointing run against their London rivals.
