Arne Slot bids emotional farewell to Liverpool after dismissal

Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot has issued an emotional farewell message to supporters following his departure from Anfield, reflecting on two memorable seasons that brought both Premier League glory and difficult moments.

Slot guided Liverpool to their twentieth English league title during the 2024-25 season, finishing ahead of Arsenal and ending the club’s long wait for another Premier League crown. However, a disappointing fifth-place finish in the following campaign ultimately led to his dismissal despite significant investment in the squad. Liverpool reportedly spent around €500 million in the transfer market in an attempt to compete on all fronts, but the expected silverware failed to materialise.

Writing in a farewell message published by the Liverpool Echo, Slot described the emotions of walking beneath the famous Anfield tunnel sign and the responsibility that comes with leading one of the world’s most historic football clubs. He recalled the celebrations following the Premier League triumph, paying tribute to the supporters who filled Anfield and lined the streets to celebrate the achievement.

The Dutch coach also reflected on the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who lost his life in a road accident in July 2025. Slot described Jota as an incredible teammate, friend, and human being, while thanking supporters for the compassion and unity they showed during one of the club’s most difficult periods. He stated that the way Liverpool supporters honoured Jota would remain with him forever.

He emphasised that Liverpool remains among Europe’s elite clubs and expressed confidence that the foundations built during his tenure would allow the next generation of players to continue the club’s success.

Despite his departure, Slot insisted that Liverpool would continue to make its supporters proud and said he leaves knowing that everyone at the club never stopped fighting to achieve success.

Reports in Italy suggest that Slot could already be attracting interest from AC Milan, where he is reportedly viewed as one of the preferred candidates to take charge of the Rossoneri ahead of next season.
