Manchester United, playing with 10 men, managed to secure a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, completing a hat-trick of wins against the Premier League newcomers at Old Trafford this season.
Ipswich started strongly and were handed the lead just four minutes in. Sam Morsy’s long pass was mishandled by André Onana, who rushed out but failed to stop Patrick Dorgu from passing the ball past him. Jaden Philogene then calmly rolled the ball over the line. Harry Maguire’s header forced a good save from Alex Palmer, and while United had lots of possession, they got a bit of luck with their equaliser. Morsy accidentally diverted Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick into his own net.
Four minutes later, another Fernandes set-piece caused problems for Ipswich. Palmer saved attempts from Maguire and Diogo Dalot, but Matthijs de Ligt was quick to pounce on the rebound, turning it into the net. Dorgu then had a powerful shot saved, and Axel Tuanzebe made a crucial tackle to deny Alejandro Garnacho. However, Ipswich’s Dorgu was sent off with a straight red card for a foul on Omari Hutchinson, and things got worse before the break as Philogene’s cross narrowly missed Liam Delap and Onana before finding the bottom corner.
With the scores level and down to 10 men, United needed a boost, which came just two minutes into the second half. Maguire met Fernandes’ corner with a powerful header into the bottom corner. Ipswich tried to settle after conceding, but Maguire blocked a shot from Delap, Cajuste had two efforts blocked, and Jack Taylor fired wide after coming on as a substitute. As Ipswich piled on the pressure, Fernandes blocked a Tuanzebe shot and made a lung-busting run up the pitch, delivering a pass that just missed Noussair Mazraoui.

Ipswich had a couple of late chances, with George Hirst heading wide from a corner and Onana saving a curling shot from Philogene. In the end, Manchester United held on for their first win in four Premier League matches. Ipswich, meanwhile, suffered their sixth defeat in their last seven league games, leaving them five points adrift of safety.
