Napoli’s first man Aurelio De Laurentiis pointed out that coach Luciano Spalletti is leaving the team at the end of the season and that he cannot do anything to change his decision, Italian media reports.
Spalletti took over Napoli in 2021, and this season he won the first Serie A title with the Naples club after a 33-year hiatus.
Napoli have one more game left until the end of the championship against Sampdoria on Sunday at the “Diego Armando Maradona” stadium.
“Spalletti is a free man. When someone tells you they’ve done their best and want to take a year off, it’s okay to let them go. His contract was valid for another year, but he wanted to leave. What could I have done? He gave us so much, I thank him”, said De Laurentiis and added:
“Now it’s only right that he continues to do what he loves.”
At the age of 64, Spalletti is the oldest coach who managed to win the Scudetto.
Before Napoli, he managed Inter, Roma, Zenit, Udinese, Ancona, Venezia, Sampdoria and Empoli.
