CAS schedules October hearing in AFCON 2025 final dispute

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it will hear the appeal concerning the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on 8 October 2026 at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The case was brought forward by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), which is challenging the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to award the final to Morocco by a 3-0 forfeit. Senegal is seeking to have the ruling overturned and is asking CAS to declare it the rightful winner of the 2025 AFCON title.

The appeal was officially registered on 25 March 2026. However, as none of the parties involved agreed to fast-track the proceedings, the case has continued under CAS’s standard procedural timetable.

CAS confirmed that the hearing will take place behind closed doors after all parties agreed that it should not be held in public. Following the hearing, the arbitration panel will begin its deliberations, although the court stressed that no verdict will be issued on the day and that the timeline for a final decision has yet to be determined.

The Lausanne-based tribunal also addressed reports circulating online regarding the case, warning that inaccurate information has been shared publicly. CAS emphasised that only statements published through its official communication channels should be considered authoritative, with any future updates to be released on its official website.

The outcome of the hearing is expected to determine the official result of one of the most disputed AFCON finals in recent history.
