HISTORY ON THE APPENINES: Maria Caputi – the first woman to administer justice in Serie A!

Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi wrote her name in the football history book because she became officially the first woman to administer justice in Serie A matches!

Maria Caputi will make her official debut as an arbiter in the first tier of Italian football, and interestingly, she is the first woman to be the head referee at Serie A matches.

Writing history is another name for her, in the season after us she became the first woman to judge a team from Serie A, during the cup match between Cagliari and Citadel.

Although Caputi is relatively young (she is 31 years old), she started working as a judge almost 15 years ago. Of course, it started from the lowest leagues, slowly progressed, reached the B series, and from August it will share the title with giants such as Juventus, Milan, Inter, Roma, Fiorentina…

It will be a good moment for football in Italy. It is sad to think that someone should be amazed by the presence of a woman. Obviously, the news is that Maria Sole will be the first woman in Serie A. It’s a historic moment, but it should be said that she advanced because of quality, not because of some other privileges – said the president of the Italian Association of Referees (AIA), Alfredo Trentalanga.

By the way, FIFA also made a historic decision a little less than two months ago – France’s Stéphanie Frapart, Salima Mukansanga from Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita from Japan will referee the matches of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for men.
