Cameroon kicked off the latest edition of the AKN (African Cup of Nations) against Guinea but failed to live up to the favorite’s role, settling for a 1-1 draw.
Guinea started the match more strongly, scoring a goal in the tenth minute. Although the Cameroonian goalkeeper managed to save Baja’s shot, the defense reacted awkwardly, allowing the ball to return to the same player who corrected his previous miss for a 1-0 lead.
By the end of the first half, Cameroon couldn’t find a way to break through Guinea’s defense. A crucial moment occurred in injury time of the first half when Kamano received a red card, leaving his teammates with ten players on the field.
Taking advantage of the numerical superiority, Cameroon equalized in the second half at the 51st minute. Nkudu delivered a precise cross, finding Megri on the far post, who headed the ball into the net for the final score of 1-1.
Despite a late chance for Toko Ekambi, Guinea’s goalkeeper reacted excellently, saving his team from defeat. The match ended with a 1-1 score as both teams cautiously preserved their goal lines until the final whistle.
