Ħamrun SC and Sliema BS lose in Nazaré

Both Ħamrun SC and Sliema BS lost their latest matches in European Beach Soccer competitions taking place in Nazaré, Portugal.

National champions Sliema Beach Soccer were beaten 7-3 by Bavaria Beach Bazis in the Euro Winners Cup. Sliema’s goals came from Matthew Schembri and Jake Agius, along with an own goal by Leemann. Knöpfli netted twice for the German side, who ran out comfortable winners.

Sliema are back in action today against Finland’s BSC Hobby at 10:15am.

Meanwhile, Ħamrun SC fell 3-2 to Naxos BS in a tight Euro Winners Challenge match. The Italian side went ahead through Caltabiano in the fifth minute, before Edinho pulled one back for Ħamrun early in the second period. Caltabiano restored Naxos’ lead, but Winters levelled again for the Maltese side. Villani then scored the winner for Naxos.

Ħamrun SC will face France’s Mouilleron SF in the fifth-place play-off at 6:00pm.
