On Friday, UEFA announced that Barcelona has been prohibited from selling tickets to its fans for their upcoming away game in the Champions League due to “racism and/or other discriminatory behaviour” displayed during their match against Monaco.
This disciplinary action will take effect on November 6th when Barcelona faces Red Star Belgrade. The specific details of the misconduct during their 2-1 defeat against Monaco in the first game of the new Champions League phase were not disclosed by UEFA.
This ticket sales ban is a result of a previous probationary sanction imposed on Barcelona last season when their fans made Nazi salutes during a Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.
In addition to the ticket ban, UEFA has also fined Barcelona 10,000 euros ($11,000) and has issued another probationary sanction for the next year, which will result in a ticket sales ban for one away game in a European competition if a similar offense occurs.
