Atlético Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw against Galatasaray at RAMS Park in the UEFA Champions League, extending their unbeaten run in away matches across all competitions to six for the first time since January 2025.
The Spanish side took an early lead in the fourth minute through Giuliano Simeone, who powered a downward header past the goalkeeper from Matteo Ruggeri’s precise cross. Galatasaray responded quickly, and Victor Osimhen came close to equalising six minutes later, with Jan Oblak making a strong save to deny the Nigerian forward.
The hosts eventually levelled in the 20th minute when Marcos Llorente inadvertently turned in Roland Sallai’s cross from the right. After the equaliser, the match saw long periods of possession with limited attacking opportunities. Shots were often off target or blocked, while a congested midfield and physical play restricted either team from creating further clear chances before half-time.
The second half remained subdued, with only three shots on target recorded by the hour mark. Leroy Sané’s claim for a penalty was denied, and Alexander Sørloth missed a notable opportunity for Galatasaray, volleying over the bar. For long spells, the play lacked clear threat, and Atlético’s final passes often fell short of the quality expected at this level.
A late chance for Atlético came in the final five minutes when Antoine Griezmann’s free-kick was brilliantly saved by Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakir, keeping the scores level. The draw allows Atlético Madrid to maintain their position in contention for automatic qualification in the Champions League, while Galatasaray could secure a place in the knockout play-off round later in the evening depending on other results.
