The players of Real Madrid defeated Eintracht from Frankfurt in the final of the European Super Cup (2:0), and the coach of Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, believes that the scorer of the second goal, Karim Benzema, must win the Golden Ball after so many important goals he scored.
“Benzema is very important for us, he is the leader of the team. We are here mainly thanks to him, he scored many important goals. There is no doubt who should win the Ballon d’Or, it’s Karim,” Ancelotti said.
With the goal in Helsinki, Benzema became the second best scorer in Real’s history with 324 goals, ahead of only Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 450 goals.
The Madrid coach touched on the match against Helsinki and the next opponent, i.e. the start of the Spanish Primera.
“It was not an easy match, especially at the beginning. We couldn’t find a rhythm, but after the first goal, everything went well. The beginning of the season is always difficult. We have a good atmosphere, it always leads to better results and games, and winning helps us stay motivated and excited. On Sunday against Almeria, I will refresh the team a bit,” Ancelotti said.
