360Sports Malta Premier – Bottom six
Gżira United kicked off their 360Sports Malta Premier bottom six campaign with a 2-1 victory over bottom-placed Żabbar St. Patrick. With this win, the Maroons moved to 17 points, maintaining their lead at the top of the bottom six table.
Giovanni Tedesco’s side were awarded a penalty in the 13th minute after a foul on Thiago Espindola in the box. Gabriel Bohrer Mentz calmly converted from the spot to give Gżira the lead, with the first half ending 1-0 in their favor.
On the hour mark, Gżira were awarded a second penalty when Alex da Paixao was fouled in the box by Jovancic. Once again, it was Mentz who stepped up to convert the penalty, doubling the lead for Gżira.
Żabbar pulled one back in the 86th minute when Diogo Tavares scored with a header, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback as the score remained 2-1 in favor of Gżira United until Daniel Portelli’s final whistle.
