Sliema Wanderers are closing in on the signing of Brazilian wingback Thiago Espindola, who is expected to become the club’s second addition in the current summer transfer window, following the arrival of Malta international Luke Montebello.
After a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, the Blues are working actively to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. Last term, the club fell short of reaching the Malta Premier final after a semi-final defeat to Birkirkara, and also failed to retain the FA Trophy, which they had lifted the previous season.
Determined to bounce back, the Wanderers have already secured the services of Montebello and are now set to bring in Espindola to bolster their defensive options.
Espindola, a seasoned campaigner in Maltese football, was most recently with Gżira United, where his contract expired at the end of the season. He spent four years with the Maroons and played a key role in helping them maintain their Premier League status after a challenging year.
The Brazilian wingback first arrived in Malta in 2017 when he joined Ħamrun Spartans, later moving to Sirens, before signing with Gżira United in 2021. His experience and versatility on the flanks are expected to add depth and stability to Sliema’s backline as they aim for a stronger showing in the upcoming season.
