In the 13th minute, an inswinging cross from Myles Beerman narrowly missed the target, passing just over the bar.

In the 23rd minute, Prince Afriyie attempted a well-struck shot from a tight angle, but Mosta goalkeeper Kelvin Emeka made an excellent save to keep the score level.

Mosta had a golden opportunity in the 28th minute when Sunday Okereke broke free down the right flank and delivered a powerful cross into the box, finding Joshua Agyemang, whose close-range effort was once again denied by the impressive Emeka.

Sliema found the breakthrough in the 51st minute when a beautifully taken free-kick from Steven Pisani, struck from a tight angle, rebounded off the woodwork and fell kindly to Vito Plut, who slotted home from close range to put his side 1-0 up.

Mosta nearly equalised in the 56th minute through a quick counter-attack, with Sakari Ojala finding himself one-on-one with Emeka, but the goalkeeper stood firm to deny the effort.

In the 68th minute, Mosta came close once again when Afriyie won possession in midfield and sprinted towards goal, only to see his powerful shot saved brilliantly by Emeka.

Sliema could have doubled their lead in the 71st minute when Plut latched onto a pass inside the box, but his effort from close range sailed over the crossbar.
