Naxxar Lions have remained highly active in the January transfer window, bringing in yet another international recruit as they battle to avoid relegation from the Malta Premier League. The Lions have now signed their eighth foreign player.
The struggling side, currently at serious risk of dropping into the Challenge League, announced the signing of Colombian forward Edward Orlando Bolaños Angulo, a 26-year-old attacker with experience across South America and Europe.
Bolaños last played in Bolivia, but his footballing journey has taken him through multiple countries, including a stint in Spain, where he featured for several clubs.
Once considered a promising young talent in Colombia, Bolaños made two appearances for the Colombian U-17 national team, impressively scoring in both matches. His early performances in youth international football suggested significant potential, and he now arrives in Malta looking to make an impact in Naxxar’s survival fight.
Bolaños becomes Naxxar’s ninth signing of the January transfer window, with eight of these players coming from abroad. The only Maltese addition is 19-year-old midfielder Jake Borg, who joined from Mtarfa FC.
The major squad overhaul highlights Naxxar Lions’ urgent attempt to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, as they seek to reverse their fortunes in the second half of the season.
With a revamped squad now at their disposal, Naxxar will be hoping their new arrivals can make an immediate impact and help steer them away from the relegation zone.
