Hibernians emerged victorious over Birkirkara with a 2-0 win during the 360 Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Bottom 6 fixture at the National Stadium on Saturday, scoring once in each half.
With this win, the Paolites moved up to third place, matching Sliema Wanderers on points, although Sliema have a game in hand. Meanwhile, this marks Birkirkara’s third loss in five games, potentially jeopardising their lead at the top if second-placed Floriana triumph over Sliema on Tuesday.
The opening goal for Hibernians came in the 25th minute when Khevin Fraga headed in a cross from Jurgen Degabriele.
In injury time, Alex Bruno sealed the victory by netting from close range past goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe.
