Gżira beat Melita by odd goal

Gzira United secured their third victory in four games by defeating Melita 3-2 in a 360Sports Malta Premier match at the National Stadium on Saturday.

This triumph moves the Maroons to second place, just one point behind league leaders Birkirkara and two points ahead of Sliema, Hamrun, and Hibernians; however, both the Wanderers and the Spartans have a game in hand. For Melita, this marked their second consecutive loss.

Gzira took the lead after 19 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. Marc Van de Bovenkamp Font brought down Thaylor inside the penalty area, and Gabriel Bohrer Mentz successfully converted from the spot.

Just before half-time, in the second minute of added time, Melita equalised. Jean Pierre Attard sent in a cross from the right, and Aldair Simanca headed the ball into the net from close range.

Gzira regained their advantage on the 61st minute when Marcelo Dias set up Thaylor on the right. Thaylor evaded two defenders and calmly placed the ball past goalkeeper Gosef Mizzi.

The Maroons increased their lead on the 72nd minute as Thaylor latched onto a through pass on the left, advanced forward, rounded the goalkeeper, and scored into an empty net.
