Giovanni Tedesco has been appointed as the new head coach of Gżira United, taking over the role previously held by Andrew Cohen, who resigned following a 2-1 loss to Ħamrun Spartans. This defeat effectively ended Gżira’s hopes of finishing in the Top Six, as they ended the first phase of the season level on points with the Spartans but were edged out on head-to-head results.
Tedesco, who returns to Maltese football after a brief stint in Qatar with Al-Mesaimeer, previously managed Gżira United during the 2019-2020 season. His tenure with the club is most notably remembered for their historic victory over Croatian side Hajduk Split, securing a place in the UEFA Europa League.
The 52-year-old Italian, a former midfielder for Palermo, has already finalized his contract and is set to take the reins again at Gżira United. This marks his second time at the club, where he aims to lead them back to success.
