In a one-sided encounter at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Floriana comfortably dispatched Naxxar Lions with a commanding 4-0 victory in the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round. The match pitted the Opening Round Top 6 winners against the Bottom 6’s last-placed team, and the result reflected the gulf in class.
Floriana took the lead in the 18th minute when Jake Grech’s attempt from the right created chaos in the Naxxar box. Carlo Zammit Lonardelli capitalized on Owen Portelli’s failure to clear, striking the loose ball past goalkeeper Debono.
Just before halftime, Floriana doubled their advantage. A well-delivered free-kick from Jake Grech on the left found Owen Spiteri, who deftly flicked the ball into the net, leaving Debono helpless.
The Greens extended their lead eight minutes into the second half. Gonzalo Gamarra set up Franklin Sasere with a precise ball from the left, and the forward made no mistake, finishing clinically to make it 3-0.
Floriana sealed the rout in the 67th minute after Naxxar’s defense lost possession on the right. A slick passing move involving Garcia, Vella, and Grech ended with Sasere receiving the ball on the left. The striker calmly slotted past Debono to complete the scoring.
The result highlights Floriana’s dominance as they continue to build on their Opening Round success, while Naxxar Lions’ struggles in the Closing Round persist.
