Birkirkara scored a goal in each half to beat Marsaxlokk 2-0 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier at the National Stadium on Thursday.
This was the second successive win for Stefano de Angelis’ side as they remain unbeaten after three matches. Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, suffered a third defeat in as many matches.
De Angelis made one change from the team which defeated Zabbar as Manuel Morello was preferred to Maicon. Winston Muscat, on the other hand, opted to start with Jefferson and Alex Tanque as Enmy Pena and Nikola Raden started the game on the bench.
The Stripes managed to take the lead on 14 minutes. Lucas Lopez was adjudged to have fouled Maxuell Samurai inside the area; referee Ishmael Barbara ordered a penalty and the Brazilian converted.
Birkirkara doubled the score six minutes in the second half thanks to a Alessandro Coppola direct freekick which beat goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak.
Balzan 2 Naxxar Lions 0
Despite playing in ten men for over an hour, two goals in the first six minutes enabled Balzan to beat Naxxar Lions 2-0 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Thursday.
Balzan, therefore, returned to winning ways after the defeat to Sliema Wanderers last week. Naxxar, on the other hand, suffered a second defeat in three matches.
Naxxar coach George Vella named once again an unchanged side. Balzan, on the other hand, had Mosawer Ahadi replacing Gary Camilleri.
Balzan had a perfect start, taking the lead in 4 minutes when off a Nikola Zerjal cross, Udoyen Akpan beat goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
Two minutes later, a Zerjal effort was partially saved by Matthias Debono and Pedro Vitor was unlucky to commit an own goal, deflecting the ball past the goalkeeper.
Jan Busuttil was sent off for Balzan on 28 minutes after receiving a second yellow card. However, they managed to hold on well to take home the three points.
