10-men Floriana hold on to a 1-1 draw against champions Hamrun

Hamrun Spartans…….1

Floriana…………………..1

There was no winner in the 360 Malta Premier match between rivals Hamrun Spartans and Floriana, as both teams settled for a 1-1 draw. Undoubtedly, Floriana was more content with this result, as they played most of the game with ten men after Mattia Veselji received a second yellow card on th 53rd minute.

Floriana scored within just 3 minutes from a promising action initiated by Mattia Veselji, who passed to Jake Grech with former Ħamrun player skillfully passes to Dunstan Vella who left Bonello with no chance to save his shot.

In the 24th minute, Hamrun were awarded a penalty when Joseph Mbong was brought down in the box by goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi, despite protests from the Floriana players. From the 11-meter mark, last season’s top scorer Luke Montebello calmly placed the ball into one side of the net, while Mafoumbi dived the other way.

Things got complicated for Floriana shortly after the start of the second half when Mattia Veselji received his second yellow card and left the Greens with only 10 players.

However Floriana held on to a draw despite Hamrun’s pressure to finish in another draw, the second consecutive draw this season.

Floriana, despite facing pressure from Hamrun, managed to secure a draw once again, marking their second consecutive draw of the season.
