Hibernians beat Gzira to continue perfect start in 360Sports Malta Premier

Hibernians scored twice in the second half to beat Gzira United 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium to register their second win in the 360Sports Malta Premier.

While the Paolites maintain a perfect record, the Maroons succumbed to their first defeat after beating Marsaxlokk in their opener.

Gzira had Joseph Minala and Kevin Tulimieri replacing Luis Riascos and Brooklyn Borg while for Hibernians, Kleiton deputised for Jurgen Degabriele.

Following a goalless first half, Hibernian’s were unlucky to hit the posts through Giannis Bastianos just one minute in the second half and eleven minutes later, the Greek midfielder hit the crossbar with a direct freekick.

Hibernians forged ahead on 69 minutes thanks to Giannics Bastianos who received an assist from the left and beat goalkeeper Zarkov with a fine rising shot.

Ten minutes later, the Maroons had an excellent opportunity to equalise when they were awarded a penalty after Jurgen Pisani was fouled inside the area by Higor Gabriel but Joseph Minala’s effort from the penalty spot was neutralised by goalkeeper Hugo Sacco.

Five minutes from time, the Paolites sealed the issue with a second goal as Farid Romero lost ball possession to substitute Isaiah Chukunyere on the right and the young Hibs forward entered the area and rounded the goalkeeper before placing the ball at the back of the net.
