Malta’s national team coach Emilio De Leo and striker Alex Satariano spoke to the media ahead of today’s European Qualifier against Lithuania, which kicks off at 6pm at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali.
Coach De Leo praised Lithuania, calling them a strong and well-organised team. He warned that, even though this might seem like the easiest game on paper, it’s just as important as any other.
“We always go out with the aim to win,” said De Leo. “We respect every team we play against, but we believe in our own players, who are fully committed.”
De Leo spoke about the need to stay compact and not give Lithuania space to play. He also mentioned Malta’s recent lack of goals but stayed positive, saying the team just needs to keep playing the same way they did against Poland and Finland.
He also spoke about Jodi Jones, saying the player had struggled for consistency in the past but is now showing great attitude and commitment, just like teammate Chouaref.

Alex Satariano, who joins the squad after a strong season, said he’s focused on the team. “This is a different level from club football, and that’s where our attention should be,” he said. He added that impressing scouts isn’t on his mind—he just wants to give his best for Malta.
Coach De Leo admitted it’s disappointing to be without three suspended players but said the team is ready with other options, and it’s a good chance to see new talent in action.
Malta now head into tonight’s match with confidence, determination, and full focus on getting a result.
