Spain’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Georgia, set for this Saturday at the Martínez Valero Stadium in Elche, could be postponed due to severe weather.
The Alicante region is under a flood alert after forecasts predicted heavy rainfall starting on Friday morning. On Thursday, local residents received emergency warnings advising them to avoid travel, steer clear of flood-prone areas, and follow road closures.
This warning comes just hours before the Spanish national team is due to arrive in Alicante. Although the match is scheduled for 20:45 CET on Saturday, the final decision will depend on how the weather develops.
Spain’s planned training session will also likely be affected by the poor conditions.
