Musiala sidelined for 4–5 months with fractured fibula after clash with Donnarumma

Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala is expected to be out of action for at least four to five months after suffering a fractured left fibula during Bayern’s FIFA Club World Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The injury occurred during a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Although an official statement from Bayern is yet to be released, German media reports confirm the severity of the injury, with Musiala expected to undergo surgery upon his return to Germany. He is not expected to play again until early 2026.

Donnarumma, visibly distressed following the incident, reportedly tried to visit Musiala in the dressing room post-match. However, the 21-year-old midfielder had already been taken to the hospital for an initial assessment. According to French outlet RMC Sport, the Italian international later obtained Musiala’s phone number and sent him messages to wish him a speedy recovery. The two reportedly exchanged a series of messages, with Donnarumma expressing both concern and support.

The incident has sparked debate within the footballing community. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer was outspoken in his criticism of Donnarumma, stating: “What he did was risky. He knew he could injure him. I told him to go check on Jamal, it’s a matter of respect.”

Video footage showed Donnarumma holding his head in his hands immediately after the clash, indicating his shock at the outcome.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois offered a contrasting view, defending Donnarumma. “Blaming him for Musiala’s injury is unfair,” said Courtois. “It was simply unfortunate.”

Musiala’s absence will be a significant blow for Bayern, who had been counting on the midfielder’s creative spark in both domestic and European competitions. The injury also raises concerns for Germany’s preparations ahead of international fixtures early next year.

Support for Musiala has poured in from across the footballing world, with fans and players alike hoping for a full recovery for one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
