Seajet Malta National SB20 Sailing League opens with a bang

The Seajet Malta National SB20 Sailing League, took to the waters again on the 27th January and 28th January hosted by the Royal Malta Yacht Club as part of the RMYC Winter Series. The SB 20 is the largest single design keelboat fleet in Malta ever.  Racing over both days with flat seas and force 3/4 winds, saw Outlaw and Sayonara Baby ending Day 1 tied with 5 points each. Day 2 brought a shift, with Sayonara Baby dominating and securing overall victory through diligent preparation and practice. Sayonara’s team spearheaded by Craig Farrugia Vella enjoy the luxury of a superb light-weight young crew with the likes of Saul Vassallo, Jake Mallia and Victoria Schulteis. Team Panda made an impressive push on Day 2, challenging Outlaw right to the end. The competition across the board was tight, showcasing the increasing skill and enthusiasm within our sailing community.

Final results saw Sayonara Baby in first position,  Outlaw in second and Team Panda finishing third. Surely these are teams to watch as all are gearing up for the Europeans due to be held in Malta in the first week of October 2024. The event saw the SB20 fleet in action, likely for the last time with only eight boats, as the fleet is set to more than double with new arrivals expected in March and April.
