Arsenal and Chelsea to battle for Ivan Toney signature in January?

The January transfer window is already heating up, with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly eyeing Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Despite serving an eight-month ban for FA betting rule breaches, Toney remains in high demand among top Premier League clubs.

While the English forward won’t see action until January due to his suspension, he’s back in training and poised for a potential move. With only 18 months left on his contract, the 27-year-old is likely to explore new horizons.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea, Arsenal, and even Tottenham Hotspur are vying for his signature. Manchester United’s recent acquisition of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta has shifted their focus away.

Brentford values Toney at £60 million, a hefty price tag that hasn’t deterred the Premier League giants. Toney has a remarkable record, netting 32 Premier League goals in two seasons and 33 in a single Championship season with the Bees in 2020-21.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank hinted at the possibility of Toney departing, but only if the right offer comes in. He acknowledged that strikers are the crown jewels of football and suggested his value could match the eye-watering sums spent on midfielders this year.

Despite the English forward’s absence, Brentford has shown resilience, with just one defeat in eight league games since his suspension. Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have stepped up in his place, showcasing their goal-scoring prowess.
