On the third day of the European Youth Olympic Festival, Maltese athletes were in action in athletics, artistic gymnastics, and taekwondo.
In taekwondo, making its first appearance at the Festival, Michela Scerri won her opening match against Austria’s Mei Hui Liu with a 2-0 score. In the next round, she faced a tougher opponent, Turkey’s Nur Yilmaz, and lost 2-0.
At the Todor Proeski National Stadium, Thea Parnis Coleiro ran in the 200m heats, finishing second in her race. Her time of 24.15 seconds was a personal best and a new national record for her age group. She now moves on to the semi-final, which will take place today, 24 July, at 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, in Osijek, Croatia, Sophie St. John competed in the Girls’ Artistic Gymnastics All-Around. She performed on the Uneven Bars (9.800), Balance Beam (12.550), Floor (12.050), and Vault (12.650), earning a total score of 47.050. She finished 26th overall and qualified for the Balance Beam final, set for 26 July.
