Poland‘s star striker, Robert Lewandowski, will be absent from their first European Championship match against the Netherlands this Sunday.
The Polish Football Association confirmed that the 35-year-old Barcelona forward has sustained a torn hamstring during Poland’s recent 2-1 friendly victory over Turkey. The national team is committed to doing everything in their power to facilitate Lewandowski’s return for their second match against Austria in Germany.
“We have investigated three players who sustained injuries during the game against Turkey defender Pawel Dawidowicz experienced a strained muscle in his quadriceps thigh,” stated the Polish FA on Tuesday. “In the instance of striker Karol Swiderski, a medical examination revealed a sprained ankle without any major damage. Both players are expected to resume full training within three to four days following treatment. “Lewandowski suffered a tear in the biceps femoris muscle, which will prevent him from participating in the first match of the tournament.”

Poland kick off against the Dutch in Group D followed by Austria on June 21 and heavyweights France on June 25.
