Newcastle United have secured their second League Cup final appearance in three years after defeating Arsenal 2-0 at a lively St James’ Park on Wednesday, resulting in a dominant 4-0 overall victory.
Shortly after Martin Odegaard missed an opportunity to reduce the deficit, Jacob Murphy scored in the 19th minute from a rebound after Alexander Isak’s shot hit the post. Despite being surprisingly defeated 2-0 at home in the first leg, Arsenal continued to struggle and their defeat was sealed in the 52nd minute when Anthony Gordon took advantage of a defensive error, allowing the hosts to comfortably control the game.
Newcastle, who have not won a major trophy since 1955, will face either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur in the final at Wembley next month, where they hope to improve upon their 2023 performance where they lost to Manchester United.
