Michael van Gerwen showcased his exceptional darts skills as he secured his seventh Premier League title on Thursday night.
Despite concerns over an arm injury, Van Gerwen produced outstanding performances throughout the tournament, culminating in a commanding 11-5 victory over Gerwyn Price in the final.
In the semi-finals, Van Gerwen faced Michael Smith and emerged victorious with a close 10-8 scoreline. He continued his impressive form in the final, averaging 105.43 and hitting remarkable checkouts of 158 and 170. Price responded with a 161 checkout of his own, but Van Gerwen’s dominant performance earned him a well-deserved victory and added another major title to his already impressive collection.
In the first semi-final, Price demonstrated his dominance by defeating Jonny Clayton with ease, securing a resounding 10-2 win with an impressive average of 107.54. Price took an early 5-0 lead before Clayton managed to get on the scoreboard, and he sealed his comprehensive victory with a 131 checkout.
The second semi-final between Smith and Van Gerwen proved to be a highly competitive encounter. Smith mounted a comeback after trailing 7-3, capitalizing on missed opportunities from Van Gerwen by hitting crucial finishes of 91 and 123 on the bull. However, Van Gerwen showcased his resilience by producing a terrific 18th leg, holding his throw in 15 darts to secure the win after Smith had left 32 following 12 darts.
