Malta is set to mark a historic milestone in its sporting history as it prepares to participate for the very first time in the prestigious WDF Europe Cup Youth, scheduled to take place from 16 to 19 July 2025 in Assen, Netherlands.
Organized by the World Darts Federation and hosted by the Dutch Darts Association, the event brings together Europe’s most promising young dart players, with 26 nations expected to take part in various categories including singles, pairs, and team events for both boys and girls. Representing Malta at this international tournament are four youth players: Thomas Sammut, Gordie Zammit, Aiden Micallef, and Riyaz Bonello. These young athletes have been selected by the Malta Darts Association to carry the national colours on one of the sport’s biggest youth stages. They will be accompanied by team manager Roderick Zammit, who brings valuable guidance and support to this historic debut.
The Maltese team will compete in all three disciplines—singles, pairs, and team competitions, gaining vital experience against some of Europe’s top junior talent. Held at the Hotel De Bonte Wever in Assen, the competition will feature a packed schedule of matches and formal events, offering participants both competitive and cultural exposure.
While this marks Malta’s first appearance at a major WDF youth event, the occasion is being hailed as a stepping stone for future international involvement and growth of darts at grassroots level.
The Malta Darts Association has described this participation as a proud moment and a key achievement for the local darts community.
