Olympic champion Archibald calls time on track cycling career at 32

Katie Archibald, one of Britain’s greatest ever track cyclists, has announced her retirement at the age of 32 after a remarkable 13 year career at the very top of the sport.

The Scot won two Olympic gold medals and a silver, seven world titles and a record 21 European titles across her career, making her one of the most decorated track cyclists Britain has ever produced. She joined the national squad at just 19 years old and went on to collect 51 medals at major international events.

Archibald will not compete at July’s Commonwealth Games on home soil, missing out on what would have been a fitting send off in front of a British crowd. She also missed the 2024 Paris Olympics due to an ankle injury.

Away from cycling, Archibald has revealed she is now training to become a nurse, marking a remarkable new chapter in her life.
