Südtirol advanced to the next round of the Coppa Italia after overcoming Catanzaro in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
Südtirol took the lead in the 17th minute through Niklas Pyyhtiä, who found the net with a free-kick. Catanzaro responded 10 minutes later, with Simone Pafundi restoring parity before the hosts moved ahead through Pietro Iemmello early in the second half.
The visitors refused to surrender and eventually levelled through Kenny Mixtur in the 85th minute, sending the tie into a penalty shootout. Südtirol ultimately prevailed 4-3 on penalties to secure qualification.
The result sees Südtirol progress in the Coppa Italia after a closely contested encounter in which both sides had chances to settle the tie during normal time. The Alto Adige club held their nerve from the spot to complete the comeback and move into the next stage.
The victory continues Südtirol’s run in the competition, while Catanzaro’s campaign comes to an end despite goals from Pafundi and Iemmello.
