Following the official signing agreement in Malta last July, the hosting of the eighth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Malta in 2027 was officially launched during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held today in Glasgow, Scotland where delegates from all 74 Commonwealth Sport Associations from around the world gathered for this cornerstone event held every two years.
Outgoing Secretary General of Commonwealth Sport Malta, Kevin Azzopardi, extended an official invitation to all nations and territories as well as delivered a presentation including the latest details about the six sports that will be held in Malta (athletics including para-athletics, swimming including para-swimming, sailing, squash, waterpolo, weightlifting) and the two in Gozo (netball and triathlon).
It is anticipated that over 1000 athletes and 600 coaches and officials will participate at the Games that will be hosted between 29th October and 4th November, 2027, followed by the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly that will be held two days later.
At the end of today’s presentation, Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare presented the quaich – the event’s iconic symbol – to Commonwealth Sport Malta President, Julian Pace Bonello.
“This moment symbolises far more than the start of our preparations. It embodies Malta’s commitment to empowering young athletes and celebrating the values of friendship, inclusion, and fair play that define the Commonwealth. In 2027, we will open our doors to the world and create a Games that leaves a lasting legacy for our youth and our country.” Concluded Pace Bonello.
