Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that discussions over the venue for the long-awaited heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have temporarily stalled, with the immediate focus shifting to both fighters’ upcoming bouts.
Although Joshua and Fury have signed agreements to face each other later this year, uncertainty remains over where the fight will take place. Their contract currently states that the contest should be held in the United Kingdom, but speculation about staging it in the United States has continued. Hearn explained that any move away from Britain would require both camps to renegotiate the existing agreement.
Hearn stressed that no formal request has been made to relocate the bout to America, adding that negotiations over the venue have been paused until after Joshua and Fury complete their respective warm-up fights.
Joshua is preparing to face Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia, while Fury is scheduled to meet Mariusz Wach. If both heavyweights come through those contests successfully, attention is expected to return to finalising the date and location for one of British boxing’s most anticipated match-ups.
Despite ongoing speculation about Las Vegas or other overseas venues, Hearn reiterated that the preference remains to stage the fight in the UK, provided all parties can reach an agreement.
