Last weekend, six Maltese players took part in the IPA Tour in Newcastle.
In fact, Gabriel Vella, Mason Mifsud, Keith Caruana, Kevin Schembri, Matthias Debono and Johan Attard participated in this very prestigious tournament.
In-form player Johan Attard managed to reach the semi-finals of the IPA Professional although he was defeated by the Englishman Gavin Robinson 9-7. Earlier he eliminated David Adinall (8-3), Cory Rees (8-6) and Craig Brown (9-6).
On the other hand, in the IPA Open Attard he reached the round of 8 when he was defeated by Liam Dunster 7-6 in a very close game. Earlier he eliminated Christian Philips (7-5) and David Adinall (7-3).
Meanwhile, the youngster Matthias Debono had good performances in the Amateur Open when he reached the round of 64. He was defeated by David Compton 6-5 although earlier he had knocked out Jamie Ringham, John Brown and Mark McAllister Jr who won them all 6-4.
Gabriel Vella also took part and lost the two games he played against Greg McMillan (6-5) and Regan Boyle (5-3) while Mason Mifsud beat Daniel Brook 6-5 although he lost against Greg McMillan 6-2.
Keith Caruana lost both matches he played against Jordan Parkinson 6-0 and Nikki Muttaugh 5-2 while Kevin Schembri beat Dave Walker 6-3 and Anthony Grimly 6-0 to reach the last sixteen in the Amateur Tour.
