Malta’s finest shine on MBF Euro 2025 Tour 1 finals night

The National Blackball Federation delivered another unforgettable night of cue sports action during the MBF Euro 2025 Tour 1 Finals Night, held at the Fuego Speakeasy Arena in Birkirkara. Five national titles were contested in a night that highlighted the depth of blackball talent across the country, with players battling not only for silverware but also for a coveted place on Team Malta ahead of the upcoming European Championships.

The finals showcased tightly contested matches in five different categories, ranging from youth divisions to the Grand Masters, each match delivering its own brand of drama and skill.

Young talent Denzel Falzon emerged victorious in the Under 15 final, defeating Dielyn Edwards by a convincing 9-6 margin. Falzon’s composure and strategic play throughout the match stood out, marking him as one to watch on the international stage.

Steven Muscat added another accolade to his growing résumé with a 9-6 win over Liam Mifsud in the Under 23 category. Muscat’s consistency and sharp potting kept Mifsud at bay, as he secured his place among Malta’s rising blackball stars.

In the most anticipated match of the night, Mevrick Zammit overcame seasoned competitor Johan Attard in a nail-biting 10-8 encounter. Both players displayed high-calibre blackball, but Zammit’s tactical brilliance in the closing frames sealed his win and crowned him national champion.

The Seniors final was another close affair, with Lee Grima edging past Chris Tabone in a thrilling 10-9 contest.

In the Grand Masters (60+) division, veteran John Lombardo showed poise and resilience as he edged Marcel Micallef 8-7 in agreat final. The match was a testament to Lombardo’s enduring skill and determination, as he sealed a narrow yet well-deserved victory.

Each winner not only walked away with a national title but also earned a spot on their respective Team Malta squads for the Euro 2025 Blackball Championships, scheduled to be held in Ennis, Ireland this November. With momentum on their side, these champions will now shift focus to preparing for the continental stage, where they will represent Malta against Europe’s best.
