The sixth day of the Blackball Nations Cup saw Malta’s pool teams deliver impressive performances, with both the Men’s A Team and Seniors making it through to the semi-finals in their respective competitions, while other teams fought hard in a day filled with action-packed matches.
Men’s A Team secures semi-final spot
The Men’s A Team continued their dominant run, securing a second-place finish in the standings to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament. The team showed great form, starting the day with a comprehensive 15-10 victory over Mauritius A, before dismantling Belgium 21-4 in a performance that was nothing short of clinical.
The team’s consistency and focus have positioned them as serious contenders for the title, with a strong team effort being led by key players who contributed to their commanding wins. The semi-finals now await Malta, and they will look to carry their momentum forward into the next phase of the competition.
Men’s B Team Displays Resilience
The Men’s B Team had a mixed day but showed resilience in their matches. They started strong with a 18-7 victory over Ireland B1 and followed that up with a 17-8 win against England B1. However, they encountered a setback against England B, losing 15-10. Despite the loss, the B team’s overall performance showcased their determination and they will be looking to bounce back stronger in future matches.
Seniors keep the momentum going
The Malta A Seniors team enjoyed a successful day, securing a 19-6 win over Australia A and a 16-9 triumph over Gibraltar A. However, they came up short against England A, losing 16-9 in what was a hard-fought match. Despite the loss, Malta A’s seniors remain in good form and have shown their ability to compete with some of the best in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Seniors B Team faced a tougher challenge, losing 20-5 to England B and 15-10 to Scotland B. While these results were disappointing, the team will take valuable lessons from the matches as they look to improve for the rest of the competition.
Masters A team faces tough competition
The Masters A Team had a solitary match against England, but unfortunately, they were on the losing side, going down 17-8. Despite the defeat, the team will no doubt take positives from their efforts and look to regroup for their remaining matches.
Individual Competition: Leon Azzopardi reaches semi-finals
In the individual competition, Leon Azzopardi made it to the semi-finals but was unable to advance further, losing to Stuart McColloch 6-3. Azzopardi’s run was a commendable effort, and he has proven himself as one of the top contenders in the tournament.
